PHAEDON ANASTASIADIS (Greece, Athens 1970-2001 / act: Athens)

Phaedon Anastasiadis Phaedon Anastasiadis was born on 28 February 1970 in Athens, Greece, where he completed his mandatory education with a specialization in applied arts. He studied at the department of Visual Communication & Advertising at Vacalo School of Art & Design in Athens (1987-1990). He furthered his studies at Harrow College of London - Polytechnic of Central London (1990-1991), and the department of Visual Communication & Illustration at the University of Wolverhampton (1991-1994) from where he received his Bachelor diploma. In between, with the aid of the Erasmus students exchange program he studied at the Koninkje Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Gent, Belgium. He worked as an illustrator at Artoon (1997-1998) and was an associate of Mediascriptum Graphic & Illustration Applications (2000-2001).

On 23 June 2001, at the age of thirty-one, Phaedon Anastasiadis passed away in Athens. His art had already been noticed by experts and the public, due to its multi-faceted content. For the same reason he was awarded a post-mortem honorary Masters of Arts Diploma by the Art & Design School of the University of Wolverhampton (2004).

An album on his life and paintings entitled Phaedon Anastasiadis: In the Vortex of Artistic Creation was published in 2003 by Adam Editions in Greek and English. It contains representative works of his artistic carrier accompanied with texts written by the art historian Dr. Dora Iliopoulou-Rogan. In 2003 issue #62 of Entefktirio literary magazine was illustrated with artworks by Phaedon Anastasiadis and Vasco Ascolini.

Phaedon Anastasiadis presented the following personal exhibitions: In the Vortex of Artistic Creation, Adam Gallery, Athens (2003); Paintings, Diana Gallery, Athens (2003); Moments of Life, Municipal Gallery, Chios Island (2004); Paintings by Phaedon Anastasiadis, Paleo Faliro, Athens (2005); Phaedon Anastasiadis, Greek Modern Art Museum, Rhodes Island (2005); The Sounds of Colour, Diexodos Center for Literature and the Arts, Messolongi (2005); Painting, Acroproro Gallery, Spetses Island (2006); Painting, Cultural Center of Hermoupolis Municipality, Syros Island (2008); and Mapping Routes, Diana Gallery, Athens (2009). He also took part in the following group exhibitions: Absent..., Haritos Gallery, Athens (2003); What is Art?, Apollon Gallery, Rafina (2003); Diexodos spreads the Aura of Culture, Papastratos Mansion, Agrinio (2004); Views of Athens by Modern Greek Painters, Ammohostos Gate, Nicosia, Cyprus (2005); Gallery Associates, Diana Gallery, Athens (2005); Views of Athens by Modern Greek Painters, The City of Moscow Museum, Moscow (2007); Alumni Artists, Milennium City Gallery, University of Wolverhampton (2008); and Silent Dialoges: Multimedia Portraits Throughout Time, ACG Art Gallery, The American College of Art, Athens (2008). The seminal exhibition Encounters: Eclectic Affinities with the art of Phaedon Anastasiadis was presented at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Center, City of Athens Cultural Organisation (2011) and the Teloglion Foundation of Art, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2012).
