AZIZ BANDARLI & UMBERTO DORÉS / dit: AZIZ & DORÉS (Italy f. 1906 / act: Alexandria)
Aziz Bandarli and Umberto Dorés were pioneering Italian photographers resident in Alexandria, Egypt. In 1906 they founded the 'Aziz & Dorés Cinema Hall', where they projected for the first time a film accompanied by music from a gramophone. In 1907 they established 'Aziz & Dorés', Egypt's first film studio at Rue de l'Hopital Grec 3 in Alexandria. In 1907 Aziz & Dorés produced The Visit of the Khedive Abbas Helmi II to the Scientific Institute of Sidi el Morsi Abu el Abbas Mosque, the first Egyptian documentary. In 1913 Aziz & Dorés filmed The War of Flowers at Gezira and The Solar Reactor in Maadi. Aziz & Dorés Studio produced a documentary on The Reception of the National Hero: Aziz Bey El Masri, Commander in Chief of the Egyptian Army (1914) and The Visit to the Playground of the Veterinary Hospital of Moharrem Bey (1915). As acknowledged partners Aziz and Dorés are reputed to have photographed the famous actress Sarah Bernhardt during her performance at the Zizinia Theater in Alexandria.
