Paolo Ciampini was born in 1941 in Montopoli in Val d'Arno, Italy. He graduated from the Istituto d'Arte di Cascina of Pisa, Italy. In 1989 he concluding his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence. After many years devoted to teaching arts subjects in various Italian institutions, he became an assistant of engraving at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Venice, and then Bologna and Florence. Today he holds the chair of the technique of engraving at the Academy in Florence. Among the international recognition he received the Third Prize at the VI Biennale of Orense in 2000, the Grand Prize at the Biennale in Seoul in 2004 and the First Special Jury Prize at the Biennale in Paris in 2002, where the Villa Medici offered him a major retrospective. He is currently leading a staff at the Istituto Italinao di Cultura in Amsterdam.
