CM: Already from a young age Sofia Dede was a member of the 'Thymari Attic Club' with which she visited mountains of Attica. That was the time her interest grew for wild flowers, which she painted whenever the opportunity arose and meticulously kept a record of their botanical type. Dede's love for flowers was kept alive, and thus in 1982 she painted the Thistles. Here the artist brings out the beauty of thistles, as they relate to chamomiles, which usually grow near them in nature. While the colors are realistic, the yellow of the background seems to have been influenced by the chamomile.
