CM: Costas Evangelatos' Johannes began as a portrait from life. However, during three years of its making (1975-1978) the original painting was gradually enriched by numerous coats of paint. In the course of time moisture corroded a large portion of the portrait. The remaining part that was rescued from the original destroyed work and the damage that it sustained, created an other portrait with an interesting identity, and otherworldly features. The cause of its 'renaissance' inspired Evangelatos to relate this portrait to Saint John the Baptist.
