CM: Costas Evangelatos' Self-Portrait comes under a general influence of Byzantine portraiture. The expression of the face is rigid and confrontational. The picture suggests a monastic tendency in the artist's style of life. As a monotype, this work is executed in two phases. The basic design is a print of thin oil on a wooden mould. Subsequently, Evangelatos revisited the print with red ink.
