CM: The Conceptual Head was part of Costas Evangelatos' exhibition Bodies and Faces of 1987. It concerns a portrait painted from life. The original picture was drafted with pencil, and then followed further additions, such as the cubist rendering of the face, and the depiction of a symbolist vocabulary. Despite the geometrical arrangement of the figure's features, nonetheless the head retains the humble character of its working-class origin. Of the symbolist vocabulary, most noteworthy is the question-mark on the head's forehead, as well as the background which is replete with symbols; on a first plane of the symbol for 'empty-space', and on a another colorful plane of the repeated cross symbols. The cold color scheme of blue is interrupted by short warm reflections of yellow. The look of the face is extremely penetrative, thus suggesting its conceptual quality.
