CM: The Mother-in-Law originates in a small group of comical and odd-looking portraits that Milly Flamburiari created. Herewith, she presents the profile of the archetype of mothers-in-law, who, as known in life, are rather unpopular in the whole. Consequently, Flamburiari depicts her Mother-in-Law as an ugly and ridiculous person. Therefore, she appears with the following strong features: very pink face with red cheeks; big green eyes; long crooked nose; and black curly hair worn in a bun. She supports round pince-nez reading spectacles, and wears a high-necked black dress with a frilled collar. A string of pearls encircles her neck, and fancy beaded earings are suspended from her ears. One of the composition's most prominent element is the red Robin Hood type hat with little leaved branches springing up around its yellow rim.
