CM: Vasso Gavaisse's Labyrinth belongs to a series of works of 2006 entitled Grid Space. The art of Gavaisse is an ongoing experiment with geometry. Her complex optical compositions are based on combinations of units that she processes on a grid. By a dding and subtracting simple lines and shapes she forms every time genuine and unique images. As a matter of fact, the labyrinthine structures in her work may be observed in the natural or artificial environment - in this case the pattern is evocative of a roofed bridge. Thereafter, Gavaisse intervenes on the flat surface by causing insertions and projections that endow the work with perspective. Thus she creates a deep network, blurring design and sculpture, on which light may travel. The bent surfaces reflect all together the design's pencil marks, the work's structure and its relationship with the current environment.
