CM: Ghika writes: "Apollo chases the untamed nymph Daphne, but without success, for she keeps eluding him. When at last he is just about to catch her, she escapes her fate by turning into a laurel-tree, immovably rooted in the ground. Apollo has to content himself with making a wreath of laurel leaves for his head." [Georgakopoulos 1984, p.8]. On the reverse of this medallion Ghika inscribed a text on the spiraling body of a snake, which reads "Oh! Daphne, since it is not possible to possess you, you shall crown me forever with your leaves."
