CM: Ghika writes: "Entranced by the beauty of the narcissus, that peerless, magical flower with its snow-white petals and its golden eye, Persephone is separated from her companions. Left on her own, she sits lost in her thoughts. All at once the dreaded Pluto, riding in a black chariot drawn by black stallions, bursts out from the shadowy underworld where he has been lying in wait and carries her off screaming." [Georgakopoulos 1984, p.9]. On the reverse side of this medallion, Ghika inscribed separate fragments of text in four concentric and diminishing circles, which read "Periflegethon: River of Sinister Passions / Kokytis: of Lamentations and Sighs / Acheron: of Sorrows / Styx: of Oblivion".
