Dimitris Koukos was born on 25 May 1948 in Athens, Greece. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts - ASFA (1969-1974) painting under Nikos Nikolaou and Yannis Moralis, and stage-design under Vassilis Vassiliadis. He received a state scholarship to further his studies at the École Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris (1975-1978) under Gustav Sengiers.
