LIZA MERLIN-VASSILATOS (Greece, Athens b. 1939 / act: Athens)

Liza Merlin-Vassilatos Liza Merlin-Vassilatos was born in 1939 in Athens. She graduated from Pierce College in 1957. She attended classes in history of art given by the historian Elli Yotopoulou-Sissilianou. She graduated in interior decoration from the Center of Applied Art (1973-1975). She took painting lessons from Theodoros Drossos (1980-1983) and continued painting under the guidance of Thanassis Stefopoulos (1986-1992).

Professor Lydakis writes: "Liza Merlin-Vassilatos belongs to the school of painters who perceive their art as a symphony of chromatic tones, as a discharge of their professional experience of color onto canvas" [Lydakis 2002, introduction].

Liza Merlin-Vassilatos has received the following personal exhibitions: Familiar and Ephemeral, Chambre d' Art Epipeda, Athens (1993); Liza Merlin-Vassilatos: Painting, Galerie 3, Athens (1999); Liza Merlin-Vassilatos: Painting, George & Marie Vergottis Foundation, Cephallonia Island (1999); Liza Merlin-Vassilatos: Painting 1998-2001, Aenaon Art Gallery, Neo Psychiko (2001); Liza Merlin-Vassilatos: Journey, Sofitel Athens Airport (2002); Female Figures, Athens Art Space - Mary Alexiou (2004); and Liza Merlin-Vassilatos: Painting, Municipal Gallery of Psychiko (2006). She has also taken part in the following group exhibitions: Views of Athens by Contemporary Greek Painters, Museum of the City of Athens (2004); Athens, Fédération Internationale Culturelle Féminine, Museum of the City of Athens (2006).

Liza Merlin-Vassilatos' artworks are kept at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens; The Cangelaris Collection of Contemporary Greek Painting, Cephallonia Island and the ACG Art Collection of The American College of Greece, Athens.
