Liza Merlin-Vassilatos was born in 1939 in Athens. She graduated from Pierce College in 1957. She attended classes in history of art given by the historian Elli Yotopoulou-Sissilianou. She graduated in interior decoration from the Center of Applied Art (1973-1975). She took painting lessons from Theodoros Drossos (1980-1983) and continued painting under the guidance of Thanassis Stefopoulos (1986-1992).
Professor Lydakis writes: "Liza Merlin-Vassilatos belongs to the school of painters who perceive their art as a symphony of chromatic tones, as a discharge of their professional experience of color onto canvas" [Lydakis 2002, introduction].

Liza Merlin-Vassilatos' artworks are kept at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens; The Cangelaris Collection of Contemporary Greek Painting, Cephallonia Island and the ACG Art Collection of The American College of Greece, Athens.
