Dimitris Merantzas was born on 19 November 1967 in Athens, Greece. In 1988 he graduated as Director of Photography from Lykourgos Stavrakos Hellenic Cinema & Television School. In 1990 he received the Fantastic Film Award for directing Doors at the Drama International Short Film Festival. In 1992 he received distinction for his participation at Spyropoulos Foundation's Young Painters Contest. He was accepted unanimously as a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
