Sophia Clara Michaeledes was born on 29 October 1973 in London. From early childhood she grew up in an artistic environment provided by her father Michael Michaeledes, who is an international artist. After concluding her studies at school in 1992 she took the foundation course at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design, London. Upon completing her foundation course in art and design, although imagining that her work would move towards abstraction, she went through an academic fine arts degree course in order to learn among other subjects anatomy, giving her a substantial grounding in art. In 1993 she entered the Academy of Fine Arts sculpture course in Florence, graduating in 1997. Michaeledes continued to develop her personal artistic research which originated in her last year of study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, moving from a sculptural medium to painting, oil on cotton paper. Alongside her personal art work, Michaeledes together with her husband, Pier Francesco Mearini, opened Il Tamarino Stampe D'Arte etching workshop in Florence in 2005. A collaboration of artistic abilities where Mearini and other artists etch and Michaeledes water-colours their work, a technique known to her since her childhood.
Sophia Michaeledes currently lives and works in Florence.
