CM: With the UL series Chryssa Nikoleri refers to the urban landscape as a vague area. In these works Nikoleri approaches landscape as memory rather than memory. Her works have two levels - in the foreground she presents an architectural picture, against a study of nature in the background. Nikoleri created the background image in her studio in the following complex way - initially, she filmed various objects in space and then, projecting them on the monitor of an analogue television, she photographed them as stills from a film. This process endowed her project both a decorative and artistic character. She created 10 large and several smaller UL works. UL five concerns the public stairway in the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, which connects the ground floor to the first floor. In Nikoleris liked the modernist architecture and the material of metal and cement.
