ELLIE ORFANOS (Greece, Piraeus b. 1922 / act: Athens)

Ellie Orfanos Unfortunately not much is known of artist Ellie Orfanos. She was born to Ioannis and Ekaterini in Piraeus in 1922. She was married to Lambros Orfanos , who was himself an artist specialized in engraving and was employed in the Bank of Greece. She also related to the art critic George I. Mourelos (Constantinople 1912-1914). She received her diploma in painting in 1946. From 1946 to 1952 she taught art at the American College for Girls in Hellenicon. She went on to further her studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris b etween 1952 and 1955. During this time, Orfanos also took courses at the the Institut de Mosaïque de Ravenne and became known as a painter with an expertise on the technique of mosaics. Upon her return in Greece she continued to work at the College from 1955 to 197?. She was very consistent and correct with teaching painting. She was a fine communicator and approached her students with motherly care.
