CM: Dimitris Kokkonas suggested his friend Abraham Pavlidis to photograph the Barber Shop (f. 1938) of Nikolaos Kampylis at Kynouria of Astros. Pavlidis remembers that he struggled at the beginning of his photographic session because he caught the attention of people who all of a sudden desired to become customers. The large oval mirror occupies a dominant position in the composition. A particularity of this Barber Shop, which was founded by the present owner Nikolaos Kampylis (b. 1914) in 1938, was its decoration with cheap souvenirs, stationery, diaries and newspaper clippings. Amongst the decor stands out a picture of popular singer Stelios Kazantzidis (1931-2001). When Pavlidis sought to photographically revisit the Kampylis Barber Shop three months after the first shooting, in June 2005, he found it had since closed due to the barber's retirement.
