CM: The ACG Alumnae Award - Maria West is significant for its special relation to the College. In 2011, The American College of Greece commissioned its alumna, distinguished sculptress Athena Politopoulou-Kargsten, to design the "ACG Alumnae Awards - Maria West" and the "Maria West Life-Time Achievement Award", through which it honored women who established Pierce College. In response, Athena based the award’s design on her work entitled Anatasis of 1987. One year later the artist offered to donate the original sculpture to the College.

The first group of the awards was offered at the "ACG Alumnae Awards Benefit Dinner" held on 2 April 2011 at Megaron, The Athens Concert Hall [visit ACG Art Newsletter of 01/02/2011]. In the future, every two years, all alumni of Pierce and Deree will be honored with the ACG Alumni Award - Maria West for excelling in a variety of fields.
