CM: The art of Kristina Ristic is concerned with human relationships. The present Untitled work is from a small suite of drawings of like dimension from the same period. In this suite Ristic explores the relationship between two heads in the form of dialogue. The present drawing began as a r ealistic representation of an active relation between two heads facing one another. In due course realism increasingly gave way to abstraction, while preserving the essence of the dialogue. In her effort to appreciate emotional aspects of the relationship, with a disregard for appearances, the drawing became less atmospheric and more expressive. Aiming at the dialogue's essential truth Ristić set herself the challenge to combine oil painting with ink drawing. She turned the left heads in purple color to evokes a darkness in its character and the left head in grey as if covered by an emotional shadow. The lines of ink refer to 'gestures' of conversation. She also used a cream colored pattern to separate the two heads, as if it were an emotional problem like a material wall between them.
