CM: Kyriakos Rokos was commissioned to create the medal for the Free Open Universities institution that was founded at the Cultural Center of the City of Athens in 1978 at the initiative of the then General Secretary of the Ministry of Education & Religion Dimitris Rokos, who is the brother of the artist. The present medal dates from 1983 when the 1st Nationwide Conference was organized, which expanded the institution of the Free Open University in Greece. The medal shows the head of a man with an open mind. From the head springs - as if it were Jupiter - a pair of hands and doves. It is a surreal composition. For Rokos, the human hand is an instrument for work - either good or bad. The doves are stable symbol of freedom and peace.
