CM: By 'Sweet Waters of Asia' the Westerners referred to the Göksu and Küçüksu streams flowing into the Bosporus in Anadoluhisari, previously called Güzelce. The Sweet Waters of Asia, famed in 19th century European visions of the Orient, meander from the Asian hills into the Bosporus by Küçüksu Kasri, the fine little rococo palace built for Sultan Abdül Mecit I in 1856.

This photograph was purchased by the donor in Istanbul.
