OLIVER STEINDECKER (USA, New York b. 1940 / act: Southampton)

Oliver Steindecker Oliver F. Steindecker was born on 30 January 1940. He became a renowned a renowned abstract artist who was once assistant to Mark Rothko. As a matter of fact it was he who - on 25 February 1970 - found Rothko in his kitchen, lying dead on the floor in front of the sink, covered in blood, a razor lying at his side. Eventually Steindecker married Maskit Bendel, director of projects in the Occupied Territories for Physicians for Human Rights - Israel, and together they faced the challenge of raising their two daughters in a community that is distinctly non-Jewish.
