CM:The Alchemist's Assistant is part of a series of works entitled Artist or Alchemist?, which deals with the creator's capacity during the production of his work - doctor, magician, priest or alchemist. In the present work appears the face of the Alchemist's Assistant, who greeted the visitor to the exhibition space, at Gallery 3 of Athens in 2007. This artwork is of special significance to Stoidis - in keeping with his habit to present in every exhibition a work that bridges the past with the future. Along these lines, it gives hints about the exhibition where the Alchemist's Assistant shall appear full scale perhaps in another capacity. The entire work of Stoidis is concerned with the religious and philosophical dimension of art. Herewith, the figure is made with the feel of divine symmetry. It resembles an religious icon with the quality of austerity and calm. The fact that from a single sheet of paper emerges a head exerts a powerful attraction. The figure's features - eyes, lips and nose - are characterized by gentleness. Viewed from an angle - with the enlivening of their plasticity - these features acquire increasing presence. It is worth noting that if the paper was loose, the face - with a simple manipulatory technique - would have the capacity to move its lips, as if speaking.
