Ioli Xifara was born in Athens. She studied fresco at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Chronis Botsoglou, Dimitris Mytaras, and Vana Xenou. Her mentors, including Alekos Fassianos, taught her how to enjoy each moment in the process of artistic creation.
Xifara is one of Greece's most promising young painters. The art of Xifara is inspired by her travels around the world, the people she gets to know, their history, traditons and culture. She has said about her art: "I try to give life to my paintings, to make them windows to the world. I try in my images to make leaves rustle, flowers smell, and people talk. I love whatever moves: the sea, the birds, the wind through a laurel tree, the ephemeral character of a whisper or a glance... I am only after the idea, not the form".
Xiafara presented the following personal exhibitions: Ekfrasi - Yianna Grammatopoulou, Athens (1995); Adam Gallery, Athens (1997); Metamorfosis Gallery, Thessaloniki (1998); and Astrolavos Gallery, Athens (2000).
